Automated Hours of Service
The Hours of Service application makes use of the electronic on-board recorder (EOBR) embedded in the OmniVision (MCP100) solution, and complies with section 395.15 of U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations governing the use of EOBRs to document compliance with DOT hours of service regulations. Hours of Service application also complies with the recently revised hours of service regulations from the DOT.

Improving dispatch decisions helps increase productivity and maximize miles per truck per day, so the QUALCOMM Hours of Service application was designed as a proactive management tool, enabling fleets to optimize dispatch assignments by providing accurate, near real-time driver availability information to the load planning process.

As a web-based software service, the information is delivered to the dispatch system via a web interface, or can be viewed online with a web browser. The automated record keeping system helps reduce costs substantially by eliminating manual maintenance and processing of paper logs, as well as by mitigating driver violations and fines associated with non-compliance. In addition, the Hours of Service application runs on the OmniTRACS platform, thereby minimizing up-front investment and driver training to deploy.

Customer Testimonial

“Tandet Management Inc. was excited to find a solution that would enable full compliance with strict HOS regulations while improving operational efficiency within our organization.  Shaw Tracking’s HOS application through OmniVision (MCP100) provides real-time visibility into our drivers’ current driving status and available hours, allowing our dispatchers to better pre-plan future stops and driver schedules while maximizing daily truck miles.  We have had positive driver feedback and acceptance—the system is user-friendly and enhances the in-cab experience by eliminating manual driver logs.  With the HOS solution, our drivers have been able to benefit from 30-60 minutes more drive time per week.  Not only does the HOS application allow us to ensure the highest level of regulatory compliance and efficiency across our fleet, but  our associated administrative overhead was reduced by over $600/year/driver while substantially improving oversight,” commented Corey Cox, Director, Information Management Systems, Tandet Management Inc.

“We continue to be impressed with the technology that Shaw Tracking has provided us. We will be able to implement automated Hours of Service in our entire fleet without having to purchase any new hardware. For Challenger, with 1,500 vehicles, there are huge advantages associated with this kind of transition including obvious hardware cost savings as well as the convenience of not having to physically route all our vehicles into a terminal in order to upgrade the hardware,” said Enno Jakobson, Executive Vice President, Challenger Motor Freight.
